Object #14, 2023, collagen, glycerin, artist’s blood, polished steel, 36”x48”
In this piece, the iron in human blood interacts with the iron in a mirror-polished steel plate (3’ x 4’), initiating a slow chemical transformation. Over time, this exchange leaves behind subtle marks—traces of the body rendered through oxidation. The photographs shows how the artworks changed over time, capturing the quiet evidence of this ongoing reaction.
I’ve shown this work both on the floor and mounted on the wall; its presence shifts dramatically with the light. Reflection, shadow, and depth emerge differently depending on the viewer’s position. This piece speaks to the porous boundaries between body and environment, permanence and erosion.
